Placing Your Dog’s Wellness First
Whether your pet is a brand-new puppy or a senior citizen, all dogs need a wellness plan to stay healthy and a part of your family for years. At Mayfair Animal Hospital, our caring veterinarians exam all new patients and develop personalized plans for them so you can rest easy knowing your pet’s needs are being addressed. We account for everything from breed to physical condition, and we look at previous vaccination records to determine what your dog needs next. Our goal is for our canine care in Cary to keep your pet in peak condition and have them leave our hospital feeling comfortable and energetic.

We’ll Conduct Your Puppy’s First Exam
There’s nothing more exciting than welcoming a new puppy into your home. Our veterinarians want to make sure your puppy gets the chance to grow up and make memories with you and your family for years, which is why we offer a comprehensive preliminary examination for all puppies to screen for health issues.
Before your puppy’s exam, we ask that you bring the following:
- Previous history of vaccines
- Previous history of deworming
- Fresh stool sample
- A leash or secure carrier for your puppy for their safety and the safety of other clients and patients
Once our team checks your puppy’s health information, we’ll run their exam, which will include:
- Physical exam
- Development of a vaccination program
- Parasite screening and prevention
- Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention
- Behavior and housetraining recommendations
- Nutritional counseling
Once your puppy is fully vaccinated, we recommend that they be spayed or neutered, and can discuss the benefits with you at length. Microchipping is also an option if you want to keep your puppy safe in the event they become separated from you.
In our annual wellness exam, our experienced veterinarians review topics such as:
- Nutrition
- Dental care
- Mobility issues
- Age-related changes
- Vaccinations
We Recommend Annual Exams for Your Dogs
Even if your dog is an adult or senior, it’s still important that they receive annual checkups so our veterinarians can make sure their lives will be long and healthy. In the case of senior dogs, we recommend you bring them in for biannual checkups.
We’ll also examine your pet’s eyes, ears, skin, heart, digestive system, and skeletal system to check that everything is working properly. If we detect any abnormalities, we’ll recommend diagnostic testing and imaging. Your pet’s health is important to us, which is why we provide extensive testing. Our canine care in Cary is unparalleled, which is why Nextdoor.com votes us at their Neighborhood Favorite for pet services.
Why Senior Dogs Should be Seen Every 6 Months
It is advised that senior dogs be seen more often in order to notice changes more quickly.
Senior dogs may experience the following:
- Changes in appetite
- Sudden weight loss or gain
- Difficulty moving
- Changes in bowels
- Decreased energy
- And more..
These changes, if caught early, can be diagnosed or treated to prevent the advancement of any number of health issues. Feel free to contact us with questions.
