Fleas are a year-round problem in North Carolina

Parasite Control

Here in North Carolina, we have year-round exposure to fleas and ticks, so Mayfair Animal Hospital recommends that you keep your pets on prevention every month. Fleas and ticks are not just a painful, itchy nuisance; they can also carry infections such as tapeworms, cat-scratch fever and Lyme disease to your pets and to you!

Fleas and Ticks

Some animals are also highly allergic to fleas, and can develop severe dermatitis from even a single flea bite. These kinds of allergies can be difficult and costly to treat, so keeping fleas at bay is the best plan.

We sell several different brands of flea and tick prevention at Mayfair Animal Hospital.

Heartworms

Heartworm disease is a serious and potentially fatal condition caused by parasitic worms living in the arteries of the lungs and occasionally in the right side of the heart of dogs, cats and other species of mammals, including wolves, foxes, ferrets and (in rare instances) humans. Dogs and cats of any age or breed are susceptible to infection. Learn more about heartworm disease and how you can protect your pet.
