Laser Therapy

Decreased pain, reduced inflammation, faster healing and many other benefits maybe achieved by the use of Class IV Laser Therapy.

What is Laser Therapy?

Laser Therapy (photomodulation) is the use of specific wavelengths of light on various parts of the body to achieve therapeutic effects. This photobiological reaction helps stimulate tissue regneration, improve healing time, increase circulation, decrease swelling and reduce pain.

What is involved in the Laser Therapy process?

There is no sedation not special restraint required for the laser treatment and usually pets seem very relaxed and comfortable during the entire process. Treatments vary in length and time depending on the condition being treated. In many instances, we recommened a series of treatments, each lasting about 2 to 8 minutes. Many pets will exhibit increased comfort and improved mobility within 12-24 hours after laser treatments.

What conditions may benefit from Laser Therapy?

  • Osteoarthritis (degenerative joint disease, hip dysplasia)
  • Muscle / ligament / tendon injuries
  • Open wounds (abscesses, hot spots, lick granulomas)
  • Acute and chronic ear problems
  • Post-surgical pain and incisional wound healing
  • Post-dental procedures (extractions and gingival procedures)
  • Trauma (fractures, injuries)
  • Neck and back pain
  • Neuromuscular disease

Laser Therapy has proven to be an effective treatment for many cases of acute and chronic pain, inflammatory conditions and wound healing.

General Information

Laser Therapy provides a non-invasive, non-surgical appraoch to treating a variety of conditions. Because the treatments are painless, no sedation is required. Your pet may feel a little warmth at the treatment area and most often will relax during the therapy.

There are virtually no risks associated with Laser Therapy. Occasionally, a pet may experience aggravation at the injury ot condition site as the laser stimulates the affected tissues. This usually resolves within 12-24 hours. More often, immediate improvement is noted which allows a reduction in the use of medications and a more rapid return to normal activity and function.

Mayfair Animal Hospital is proud and excited to provide your pets with this advanced Class IV Laser technology for clinical applications in pain management, wound healing and treatment of inflammatory conditions.

Our 12-year-old dog, Grizzy, experienced age-related deterioration ub her ability to go up and down stairs as well as getting in and out of our vehicles. We were interested in a non-invasive treatment for Grizzy's arthritis in her hips. Laser Therapy was recommended.

After six treatment sessions, Grizzy gained more mobility and was able to play and move more comfortably. We are very happy we chose to do the Laser Therapy and will repeat the process should the need arise. I truly believe that the treatments are well worth the cost and the benefits are visible significantly sooner than using the prescription medication option. - Ron Moerbe
